Wine In Focus: Regent Rosé

If you are looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift, then look no farther than our Rosé 2021. For the month of March, we are featuring this staff favourite. This single varietal wine is a beautiful expression of a weightier Rosé perfect for the cooler months of the year. On the nose, the cranberry really shines through as well as notes of ripe raspberry, cherry, and rose-hip cordial. Initially, this wine will give you a strong aroma of ripe fruit to complement its vibrant pink-cherry colour, but don’t let the colour fool you into thinking this is a sweet Rosé. On the palate, this is a rich, dry Rosé with a heavier-bodied expression of Rosé than you would expect. This structured wine is the perfect middle ground between a Pinot Noir and a typical Provence-style Rosé. This is precisely why our staff enjoy it so much - it’s got more power to it than a classic Rosé and can stand up to heavier winter meals and Sunday roasts. Our Rosé also pairs exceptionally well with seasoned prawns, as its acidity perfectly balances the strong garlic. So, whether you are drinking our Rosé 2021 with a bit of salami for your charcuterie before you head out for a big meal, or you are pairing this with some ratatouille or paprika chicken at home, this is the perfect accompaniment for your Mother’s Day plans.

This single varietal wine is 100% Regent grape. The Regent grape hails from Germany where it was developed in the late 1960s. Originally a cross between the German grapes of Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau with the French grape called Chambourcin, this has proven to be the perfect addition to our vineyard. Typically grown in the Rheinhessen, Palatinate, and Baden regions of Germany, this grape is well suited to grow in cooler climates similar to ours. Because of its smaller bunches, it tends to ripen early here even without the need for copious amounts of sunshine. Additionally, it is disease- and frost-resistant, which suits our sustainable vineyard well. In the winery, we press it lightly only to about a 55% extraction rate as its rich colour easily comes through. The grapes have an unusually thick skin, which allows for the vibrant colour of our Rosé as well as the additional tannins noted on the palate. While this is a stronger expression of a Rosé, it is meant to be drunk young and doesn’t need to collect dust on your shelf before you can enjoy it.
